Department

Oncology / Haematology

The diagnosis of a tumour disease in the course of a lifetime is drastic. The oncology department at the Claraspital does everything it can to deal with this situation and cater to the patient's individual needs.

Medizinisches Angebot Onkologie Claraspital Content

Patients receive treatment at the highest professional level in the oncology department. We also offer accompanying therapies and, if required, palliative treatment in the same building.

It can happen that a patient with a cancer diagnosis becomes unsure whether the proposed treatment is suitable for them. We believe that patients with a life-threatening illness are entitled to a second opinion and offer counselling in this case.

Due to the ever-increasing variety of treatment options for individual cancers, close cooperation between specialists is required. In a joint conference, the interdisciplinary tumour board, we develop a treatment concept together and make a recommendation for the best possible course of treatment.

In addition to the treatment of solid cancers, the haematology service includes the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant blood diseases and blood clotting disorders.

Tumour board

An interdisciplinary tumour conference is held six times a week. All specialists - radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, medical oncologists and radiotherapists - are present at these meetings. The radiologists demonstrate the relevant X-ray findings, the pathologists comment on the tissue examinations and the surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists jointly discuss the treatment strategy, which in many cases includes surgical, radiotherapeutic and chemotherapeutic intervention.

General practitioners and attending physicians can also take part in the tumour board and contribute further aspects, including those relating to the patient's family situation and social environment. The clinical picture of each individual patient is discussed together and the therapy plan for the treatment is determined as a team. Registration is requested

Cytostatics are active substances that are used as part of chemotherapy to treat cancer. At the Claraspital, cytostatic drugs are customised for each patient. The drugs are dosed by the oncologist according to the patient's height and weight, blood count, kidney and liver function. Each individual prescription is checked according to clinical-pharmaceutical criteria based on the patient's individual data before production.
