Patients' rights
You have a number of rights during your stay. We have summarised the most important ones for you here:
Patient obligations
However, as a patient you also have certain obligations. These include in particular that you:
- provide the attending physician with complete information about previous illnesses, examinations and treatments.
- comply with the nursing and organisational instructions
of the staff. - show consideration for the needs of your fellow patients.
- respect the privacy of employees and fellow patients. Filming and photographing people without their explicit consent is therefore prohibited.
Consent for research purposes - the general consent
Recognising and treating diseases has made enormous progress in recent decades. This development is the result of many years of research in which doctors, scientists and patients are actively involved.
Research is largely dependent on data from patients' medical histories. These can include, for example, results from laboratory analyses, information on a therapy or on hereditary predispositions to certain diseases. Biological material that was taken as a sample during a hospitalisation and is no longer needed for diagnostic purposes is also very valuable for research. These leftover samples can be blood, urine or tissue samples, for example.
According to the Swiss Human Research Act (HRA), your written consent as a patient is a prerequisite for us to be able to continue using information about your illness or samples taken as part of your treatment for research purposes.
You will therefore be asked on admission to the clinic whether your health data and samples may be used in encrypted form for research purposes at a later date. You will receive an information letter with a declaration of consent for you to sign. This information explains how you as a patient can contribute to medical progress and shows how your patient data and rights are protected.
