Drug supply

The supply of medicines is one of the main tasks of the hospital pharmacy.

The focus is on optimising the supply of medicines, infusion solutions and disinfectants to the hospital's own patients. Important aspects here are economical purchasing with sensible consideration of the patient's individual needs and the constant assurance of prompt drug therapy.

In addition to the provision of medicines, the pharmacy is responsible throughout the hospital for ensuring that all medicines are of impeccable quality from delivery to administration to the patient. The pharmacy also carries out expiry date checks on the wards and monitors the correct storage of medicines. The processing and monitoring of supply bottlenecks is a very important and large part of the supply of medicines, which in many cases also makes it necessary to procure medicines abroad and pass on information to the prescriber.

As chair of the Medicines Commission, the pharmacy plays a leading role when it comes to the safe, evidence-based and cost-effective use of medicines. The pharmacy prepares the necessary documents for the commission and evaluates drug-related issues in advance with regard to clinically relevant aspects.

The specialist area of drug supply also includes the entire master data management for safe drug prescriptions, including documentation in the hospital information systems and as the basis for correct billing of services.

The pharmacy has a wholesale licence from Swissmedic, which enables it to supply other hospitals and doctors' surgeries in accordance with GDP guidelines. The Claraspital is a member of the H-pharm purchasing association and is committed to good quality, supply reliability and partnership-based company relationships.
