Cytostatics production

The production of cytostatics is one of the main tasks of the hospital pharmacy.

At the Claraspital, cytostatic drugs (chemotherapies, anti-cancer drugs) are prepared individually for each patient. The drugs are dosed by the oncologist according to the patient's height and weight, blood count, kidney and liver function. Each individual prescription is checked according to clinical-pharmaceutical criteria based on the patient's individual data before production.

The ready-to-use products are manufactured by trained personnel under strictly aseptic conditions (free of particles and microorganisms) in qualified clean rooms and special safety cabinets. This equipment is used both for product protection to ensure sterility and to protect employees from coming into contact with the highly effective medicines.
The hospital pharmacy has a manufacturing licence from Swissmedic and must therefore comply with the legal regulations and quality standards in accordance with GMP. The scope of production includes outpatients and inpatients undergoing treatment at the Claraspital as well as contract manufacturing for an external hospital in the region.

At the centre of the hospital's oncological process, including the hospital pharmacy, is special software that is used to digitally execute and document all process steps, including control steps (prescription, production, administration). Compliance with standardised workflows ensures consistent quality and safety for patients, employees and the environment.
