Cardiology at the Claraspital - equipped with a modern treatment wing and renovated ward - clarifies and treats cardiovascular diseases. The broad spectrum of diagnostics and therapy, in particular modern imaging and the in-house cardiac catheterisation laboratory, enable extended basic care on an outpatient and inpatient basis.
The focus is on holistic patient care with a conservative approach with medication or interventional treatment, for example with coronary stents or pacemakers, as required. A cardiology service is available 24/7 for emergencies. Cardiac surgery and catheter-based treatment of valves or arrhythmias are not performed at the Claraspital. In such cases, good networking with the relevant centres guarantees seamless further treatment following the necessary investigations.
Treatment is conservative, interventional or surgical, depending on requirements. We offer our patients a cardiological emergency service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and work closely with the University Heart Centre, in particular the cardiac surgery department.
The cardiology department offers a range of examinations, drugs, devices and interventions for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Outpatient and inpatient cardiology
Most cardiological investigations take place in an outpatient setting. In some cases, particularly in the case of additional illnesses (comorbidities), complex investigations and after interventions, short-term monitoring in an inpatient setting is indicated.
Another important part of inpatient cardiology is the treatment and management of heart failure, particularly in cases of cardiac decompensation. Other aspects include arterial hypertension, inflammation of the pericardium (pericarditis), possibly also involving the heart muscle (myocarditis).
