Prof.Ralph Peterli, MD, Senior Consultant Clarunis - University Abdominal Centre Basel, and Prof. Katharina Timper, MD, University Hospital Basel, are delighted that Basel has been chosen as the venue. With the positive vote of both societies (EASO/IFSO), the long-standing work of Prof. Peterli and Prof. Timper can also be presented at the congress, including the interdisciplinary collaboration between surgeons, endocrinologists and researchers, with the aim of ensuring that patients affected by obesity receive the best possible care.
Obesity is a chronic, complex, multifactorial disease - not the fault or failure of those affected. People living with obesity need targeted, individualised, multimodal therapy and support from an interdisciplinary team. According to the WHO, 1 in 8 people worldwide will be affected by obesity in 2022. The number of adults living with obesity has doubled since 1990 and the number of adolescents with obesity has quadrupled.
