Intensive care medicine is an important link in the treatment chain of specialised care. It includes the diagnosis, prevention, care and treatment of all forms of imminent or actual failure of vital functions in patients at risk of life-threatening illnesses. These may be patients with internal medical conditions or patients following major operations/interventions. Patients who cannot be adequately cared for on a ward are also cared for in intensive care.
Visits to intensive care unit
Only the persons closest to the patient have access to the intensive care unit. Visits must be arranged with the responsible intensive care nurse.
Mo-Fr 10-14 Uhr and 16-20
Weekends and public holidays 12-20
The intensive care unit at the Claraspital has 10 beds. It relies on specialised medical and nursing staff and modern technical equipment that meets medical requirements. If necessary, necessary therapeutic interventions can be carried out directly in the department. The direct neighbourhood to the operating wing and interventional cardiology also enables short transport routes. Intensive care medicine at the Claraspital is certified by the Swiss Society for Intensive Care Medicine.
Most patients in intensive care are awake and can easily be visited by their next of kin. Visiting the intensive care unit is unfamiliar for most visitors. Our treatment team will be happy to support you in this situation, try to answer your questions and can also organise help and support if necessary. As a visit to the intensive care unit can be very stressful for children, visits by children must be avoided.
For patients who are hospitalised in the intensive care unit for a longer period of time, the intensive care team will create a diary in which important events and observations of the stay are recorded and which is given to the patient on discharge.
Ethically difficult decisions are discussed in the ICU in a structured manner with ethical case discussions. The patient's will is always at the centre (voluntariness and wish for treatment).
